Bio

Isabella Vasilopoulou is a Structural Civil Engineer. For several years she has worked as Head of the Structural Department at ODOTECHNIKI Ltd, in Athens, Greece, having the overall responsibility for the design and management of the projects. Nowadays, she collaborates with several consulting engineering companies as Consultant Engineer, being involved in the design of major projects in Greece and abroad. She also works as business and career coach, supporting especially the young generation at their first professional steps. Her passion for structural engineering, alongside with her endless love for mentoring young engineers created SDC.

Education

Doctoral Degree (PhD) in Civil Engineering, National Technical University of Athens, Greece. Thesis: Nonlinear dynamic response and design of cable nets.

Post-graduate degree of specialisation (PDS) in Interdisciplinary Graduate Program of Studies – Structural Analysis and Design, National Technical University of Athens, Greece. Thesis: Behaviour and analysis of cable net roofs.

Diploma in Civil Engineering (specialisation in Structural Engineering), National Technical University of Athens, Greece. Thesis: Inelastic analysis of frames under seismic conditions.

Certificate in coaching – AC accredited, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Greece.

Areas of specilisation

Analysis and design of structures, with emphasis on infrastructure projects, mainly focusing on road, railway or pedestrian bridges made of reinforced or prestressed concrete or steel.

Design of infrastructure projects under unfavourable soil conditions, such as structures founded on landslides or liquefiable soil exploiting the natural seismic isolation the liquefaction provides.

Rehabilitation design of infrastructure projects (bridges, tunnels, retaining walls, culverts, etc.).

Behaviour of long span tensile structures subjected to dynamic loads, with their response being characterised by geometric non-linearities and phenomena of non-linear resonances, with focus on cable structures under wind loads.

Representative Projects

Project Construction “Rehabilitation Works on the problematic sections of N.R. Tripoleos – Kalamata in the section: Paradisia – Tsakona”, Peloponnese. Foundation of temporary towers and scaffolding for the erection of the Arched Bridge T4. Duties: Head of the Structural Department, participation in the structural design.

Doha Metro: Metro red line south elevated & at-grade: Structural design of metro stations. Duties: Structural design verification and independent checks.

Railway Route 10 Rehabilitation – Southern Part (Fushë Kosovë – Hani i Elezit): Detailed Design & Tender Dossier – KOSOVO. Duties: Head of the Structural Department. Participation in the structural design and rehabilitation design of bridges, tunnels, Cut & Covers, platforms of railway stations and stops.
